Established in 2018, LAWANCI (Legacy for African Women and Children Initiative) emerged to address systemic challenges faced by South Sudan’s women, children, and marginalized communities. Born from a commitment to equity and resilience, we prioritize education, healthcare, and grassroots peacebuilding to drive transformative change.
Legacy for African Women and Children Initiative (LAWANCI) is a South Sudan-based non-governmental organization founded in 2018 to champion the rights, safety, and resilience of women and children across Africa. Registered in Juba and operating under the Republic of South Sudan’s Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), LAWANCI addresses systemic inequalities through education, economic empowerment, health initiatives, and grassroots peacebuilding. Our mission is to create a society where women and children thrive as catalysts for sustainable development and social cohesion.
From humble grassroots beginnings, LAWANCI has grown into a transformative force impacting thousands of lives across South Sudan. What started as a local initiative has evolved into a national movement. Through close collaboration with community leaders, global organizations, and grassroots volunteers, we have significantly expanded our reach. We’ve established vocational training centers in underserved regions, launched impactful advocacy campaigns, and supported women in taking leadership roles in peace and reconciliation efforts. Our programs are designed to tackle the root causes of poverty, inequality, and trauma from years of conflict. By prioritizing education, empowerment, and healing, LAWANCI is reshaping futures and rebuilding communities from the ground up.
Our mission is to create a sustainable and peaceful future for South Sudan by equipping women and children with the tools they need to thrive. We achieve this by providing access to quality education, economic empowerment initiatives, and strong advocacy platforms. At LAWANCI, we champion gender equality and the protection of child rights, ensuring that the most vulnerable voices are heard and uplifted. We believe true change begins with empowered individuals—those who can lead, heal, and strengthen their communities. By nurturing resilience, promoting inclusive development, and fostering hope, we work one life at a time to build a better, more equitable South Sudan.
To build an African society that recognizes and upholds the legacy of women and children through equity, opportunity, and dignity.
To empower, encourage, and safeguard women and children by providing access to education, economic resources, healthcare, and psychosocial support, fostering resilient communities across the continent.
LAWANCI is governed by a five-member South Sudanese Board of Directors, ensuring culturally resonant and locally driven solutions. We are proudly registered with:
